Air conditioning units have been the go-to cooling system for homes and properties. However, the use of such units has seen a slight decrease in percentage given that the cost of utilities and other life essentials are now rising. Even so, people are now looking for an alternative that can make their homes and properties stay cool most especially during hot days.

What is an Evaporative Cooler?

One great alternative for the cooling system is evaporative coolers. An evaporative cooler is an appliance that enables air to pass through. This unit pulls the outdoor air through the sides and blows them into the house. Before it blows the absorbed air into your home, the evaporative cooler converts the temperature of the outside air through a pad of water-absorbing material. The conversion method will then produce cool and filtered air for a property and its occupants to enjoy.

How to Maintain an Evaporative Cooler?

If ever you have an evaporative cooler, it is important that you take care of it. Just like other appliances, taking care of your evaporative cooler can help extend its life and efficiency.

The pad of water-absorbing material is important in making the air cool and fresh. For a great airflow, this pad should remain damp but not soaked. The dampness of your pads creates the most evaporation, which cools the air to its full extent. You may have to adjust the amount of water that the pump moves to maintain good airflow and temperature.

After using the pads for a very long time, you should remove them from your evaporative cooler and clean them thoroughly. You can use a wire brush to scrape away any scaling. Then, you can paint the surface of the pads with a cooler protectant.

The next thing that you must check is your water distribution system. This system includes a pump screen, pump impeller, and water distribution tubes. All of these components must be cleaned inside out. If there are cracked tubing, you must replace them immediately. Moreover, the pump impeller must be lubricated with motor or engine oil.

Then, inspect the electrical wiring and switches of your evaporative cooler. You must look for any poor connections or worn insulation. There might also be cracks and wear on the belt. If any of these are present, then you must replace or repair the damaged components immediately.

Speaking of the belt, you must look for the installed motor bolts. Adjust them property so that there will be proper belt tension. Setting up the belt tension allows moderate hand pressure to depress the belt about one inch at the centre.

As for your reservoir, you must drain and flush the water first before you proceed to its maintenance. You can scrape away all the scales on the reservoir and paint it with a protectant to boost efficiency. When you use the reservoir again, you must adjust its float valve to maintain about three inches of water.

Evaporative coolers are important when cooling our homes. Aside from its main feature, the use of an evaporative cooler helps us save a lot of money and conserve energy. To know more about evaporative coolers, you can give us a call at Peter Ross Enterprises.
