On a truly hot day, a day where cooling portability is essential, there are only two realistic air freshening options. Not in any order of preference, a mobile evaporative cooler is first on the scene. A similarly specced portable air conditioner is next to take up its position. Straight to the matter at hand, which appliance has a better performance edge?
Range-Limited Mobile Air Conditioners
If a roving air conditioner is left to its own devices on a large floor, it’ll cool the local area. It’ll even function as a dehumidifier, which is a desirable feature in a busy factory. What it won’t do is push that cooing envelope throughout the open area. Okay, so maybe it can be used as a precision-cooler. It gets wheeled to a hot zone, it chills the area, then it moves to the next warm spot. Not so fast, this apparatus is loaded with chemicals. If the mobile appliance housing receives movement-accrued damage, those chemical agents could leak. That’s a bad enough thought in an industrial setting, but what if the gear is operating in a food-safe environment? That’s not an acceptable risk. Anyway, here are some more reasons why an owner wouldn’t utilize a portable AC unit:
• It might leak chemicals
• Can’t cool large areas
• Heavy and bulky
• Noisy compressor
• Nowhere to drain the condensate
Evaporative Coolers Are Naturally Portable
People have seen window AC units at work. They produce condensate streams because they function simultaneously as efficient dehumidifiers. While it’s true that this feature works well enough in a central air conditioning system, a trail of dewy water isn’t going to win a mobile air conditioner any awards. Unless there’s a hose fitted to the equipment, that water is going to go everywhere. Again, factory and warehouse owners obviously view this as an undesirable machine trait. At any rate, focusing once more on portable evaporative units, they’re lighter. They don’t use heavy compressor units or chemicals. Moreover, as well as functioning as a large floor space cooler, an evaporative unit can be wheeled outside, perhaps onto a restaurant patio, to cool a hot and bothered eateries’ clientele.
It’s a big win, at least that’s how the pros and cons have presented themselves. Air conditioners are often powerful, although many evaporative models can boast similarly powerful air chilling capabilities. On transplanting their innards inside portable housings, though, things change. Portable AC units are just not meant to be wheeled all over the place, not with all of those heavy parts and chemical streams. Mobile evaporative coolers, light and simple in architecture, are very much built to rove through all kinds of room types and outdoor locales.
