Technically, the tension of the fan belt must be at least 1 inch of play. Lack of Bearing Lubricant

Lubricant can effectively reduce friction, heat, and damages whenever one is applied between solid surfaces. One of the evaporative cooler components that must have an adequate amount of oil is shaft bearings. Initially, these bearings will have enough oil on their surfaces. However, as time passes, the amount of oil that is present might be insufficient. Once the amount of oil depletes, the bearings will consequently begin to perform erratically, which then causes the overheating of the motor.

Faulty Electrical Components

Another possible reason behind the overheating issues of an evaporative cooler is the presence of faulty electrical components. Some of the wirings and connections that are connected to the cooler might have been shorting out lately. A bad switch in the motor or fuse can also make it overheat and shut down without any warning. Another related problem with electrical components is the presence of too much voltage. Supplying an evaporative cooler with too much voltage can damage its wiring and circuitry, which then results in overheating and obtaining damages.
